Reading Notes: Nigeria Part A

Why the Bat Flies by Night

Bat (Emiong): A genuinely bad guy who became jealous of his friend Oyot, so he plotted a plan to get him killed. He gives his friend Oyot instructions on how to make the soup, but when Oyot tries to mimic the soup at his home, he kills himself because the bat told him to boil himself.

Bush Rat (Oyot): Bat’s “Friend”. He always ate with bat and one day got curious of why the bat’s soup always tasted so good. He then was fooled by bat into thinking that he should boil himself, so he ended up killing himself once he got home.

Hollywood: The bat would be Jared Leto and the bush rat would be Brad Pitt.

The Plot: A friend becomes jealous of the other, so he tricks him into suicide.

Setting: This story takes place outside of the civilized world in the woods.

Because of his actions that day, bat is hunted during the day, so he must fly at night.
