Week 3 Story: Nic and the Storm

As the days passed, there became more and more hatred and evil in the world. People were no longer kind, caring, nor compassionate towards each other. The days of loving your neighbor were long gone. Evil was everywhere. Evil filled the hearts and souls of everyone in sight. This saddened God. His beautiful creation was beautiful no more. God knew that he must find a way to restart. God needed to cleanse the earth of the hatred and evil, for a fresh beginning.

One day, God decided that it was time to set forth with his plan of washing away the sins of humanity. He sent an angel down to Earth to relay his message to his chosen leader. The angel found the man described by God and said, “There will be a great flood. Build a great submarine to save you and your family from the flood. Save animals as well, for they have done no wrong.”. Before leaving, the angel asked the man his name in which he replied, “Nic”. The angel shook Nic’s hand then spread his wings and shot upwards into the sky. Nic was an older man, with a white beard and a weathered face. He was nearly four hundred years old at this time. Despite his age, Nic decided to follow God’s word and build a Submarine .

The evil people scorned Nic. They hated him with passion. “Where is your God! Your God does not frighten me!”, screamed the mobs of people. Despite the ridicule, Nic carried on with his work. Nic worked day after day, hour upon hour, finishing the Submarine. He then set about to find animals to board his ark. He found two of every species of animal and tempted them into the Submarine with food. As soon as all of the animals were boarded the ark, a raindrop fell.

The rain began falling heavily, with no signs of stopping. The lost people were still shouting at Nic, insisting that his God was false and that they were not afraid. Eventually the rain had moved water levels to neck deep on the lost people, and they began to attempt to enter the submarine, but with no success. Their fate was sealed. Soon, the water covered the Earth, and Nic rode the waves for months and months, until finally the rain stopped and the earth began to soak up the water. He drove the submarine under the waves, through cities and towns. He saw great temples now covered with fish and moss. Where kings one sat, he saw starfish and sharks. This was the end of the world he knew.  Humanity had started over.

Author’s note: This story is based upon the story of Noah’s Ark. In the story, God sends an angel to tell Noah about the flood and to build an ark. People begin to mock him and make fun of him, but he keeps building. Noah gets two of each species of animal, male and female, to board the ark to save the animals. Soon, it starts raining. It rains for 40 days and 40 nights, and the water completely covers the Earth. Everything is destroyed. After the 40 days and nights, the rain stops, the water becomes less deep and the world is empty. Noah, his family, and the animals have to restart.

    1. Hi Levi,
I really like the more modern adaptation of Noah's Ark. It also struck a cord because I feel like there really is so much hate in the world right now and it really seemed like something like this could very possibly happen. I hope something like this doesn't happen and that people can show more kindness but I really enjoyed reading this adaptation of the biblical story.

  2. Hi Levi! I was super invested in reading this story, I absolutely love the amount of detail you put into it. There is a very nice modern twist to this story, as you changed the ark to a submarine and so on. I think you did a great job of retelling this story, especially with adding certain details to make it sound good but also not making it too lengthy. Overall, I really loved this!
